After the death of Margaret McCarty, first
wife of Harry Aubrey Toulmin jr
(Lond*133116432),
on 29 Sep 1994, it became necessary for the executors of Harry
Aubrey
Toulmin sr (Lond*13311643) to trace the living descendants of his grandfather
Theophilus
Lindsey Toulmin (Lond*133116), as a considerable sum of money in trust
was to
revert under the former's will to descendants of the latter per stirpes.
Following
enquiries, a letter was sent on 21 April 1996 to the 82 addressees below,
being
apparently the senior representatives of every surviving branch; further

I have copied the names exactly, adding a
reference number on the left and my
catalogue
reference (omitting the *133116) on the right.
Dashes in the latter
indicate
an inferred descent: eg "2--" means "possibly a grandchild of
*1331162". I
have
indicated the least number of generations that seem possible, and often one or
two
more are likely. My inferences depend
heavily on the fact that the list appears
to be
arranged strictly per stirpes, as would be expected, to facilitate the
calculation
of the shares; but see my footnote on 62.
Note that the names of married women follow
the US convention of giving both
maiden
and married surnames: eg Ethel Gaines Hagan Hastings was born Ethel Gaines,
and
married succesively Hagan and Hastings.
