22. Samuel6 TOULMIN (William5, Abraham4, Abraham3, Abraham2, Abraham1) reference *13214 (#20) birth date unknown. Samuel died 1848?.
He married twice. He married Maria WRIGHT. (Maria WRIGHT reference =*13214(1)) (Maria WRIGHT is #317.) Maria became the mother of Charles Clark TOULMIN 14th February 1809. related to 2nd wife of *13212? Perhaps the Mary Wright who witnessed her marriage in 1806? (See also App.D,36; but this ident. seems unlikely.)
He married ???? BOGLE SMITH. (???? BOGLE SMITH reference =*13214(2)) (???? BOGLE SMITH is #79.) Miss Bogle-Smith (Flood,19); no hyphen in Burke. Neither mentions an earlier marriage, but *132142 can hardly have been born before *132141:
Samuel became the father of Charles Clark TOULMIN 14th February 1809. "Surgeon" (*132142 GRO); "Capt.,HEIC's 63rd Native Inf." (Burke): but this seems to be confusion with another Samuel (**1321633), and the date 1848 may be also. Surely it is impossible that Thomas Henry Toulmin (**13216331) was his son, as claimed by Burke; but Charles Clark Toulmin (not in Burke) probably was. If so, it appears that he was Samuel Wilton T.
Samuel TOULMIN and ???? BOGLE SMITH had the following children:
+
72
i.
Charlotte Sarah7 TOULMIN.
73
ii.
Harriet TOULMIN reference *132143 (#396). Harriet died 1854. d. unmarried (Flood,19). Not in Burke, but admon.
(to "Charlotte Sarah Thomas Widow", *132142), 6 Nov 1854, confirms: "Harriet Toulmin late of Wendover ... Spinster"; estate #1500 (PRO
PROB6/230, f.442). d. Steyning Apr-Jun 1854 (GRO).
Samuel TOULMIN and Maria WRIGHT had the following child:
74
iii.
Charles Clark TOULMIN reference *132141 (#395) was born 14th February 1809. Charles died 28th June 1842 at 33
years of age. b. London 14 Feb 1809, bap. St James's Clerkenwell 11 Oct 1816, son of Samuel Wilton Toulmin of Smith St and wife Maria
Wright. Educ. Christ's Hosp. Cadet 1825; Ensign 5 Nov 1825; arr. India 16 May 1826; Lt. 13 Jan 1828; invalided 9 Sep 1831; returned UK 2
Sep 1835; d. 28 June 1842 (Hodson/O; he has "Smith St Hackney", surely an error for Smith St Clerkenwell, which ran S from corner of
Northampton Sq (London/1813), but has now vanished).
GM 1842 confirms "aged 32 [actually 33], late Lieut. 33d Bengal Native Inf."
Cannot have been son of -1William -0 Wilton Toulmin (*13212), even though Burke (wrongly) gives "Mary Wright" as name of the latter's
second wife. Undoubtedly the same as the following: Death Stepney Upper Mile End Middlesex 432 28 June 1842 2 Charles St Charles Clark
Toulmin (male) 34 Clerk in the West India Docks Inflammation of bowels Present at death 2 Charles St. Eliza Oates, 29 June 1842
